True Beauty

TRUE BEAUTY

First of all welcome to my blog and thank you for joining me. I’m all about fun times, inspiration, motivation, growth and getting to know you better. Every month, I will share my thoughts on anything really. I will also give you the opportunity to share yours too for a chance to win great cosmetic hampers (for guys and girls), courtesy of AVON cosmetics. Yeah, I’m quite chuffed about that too!

So… something caught my attention this week. It’s a TV series called True Beauty in which contestants are competing to see who the most beautiful person. However, they think they are only being tested on outer beauty. The show is hosted by 3 judges who judge the contestants on their inner beauty!

I decided to look up the definition of ‘beauty’ in the World English dictionary and next to the word was this:

Beauty (bjuiti)

n , pl -ties

1. the combination of all the qualities of a person or thing that delight the senses and please the mind.

2. A very attractive girl or woman.

I’m not really feeling the 2nd definition so I’ll go with the 1st one and I’ll tell you why.

This is because standards of beauty are always evolving and we all have our own ideas of what outer beauty or ‘attractiveness” should be based on. One person may find you attractive and the next person may not. The concept of beauty differs from person to person.

That does not mean you’re not beautiful though, it just means that you just don’t fit their standard….But why should it be about them and what they think?

What is important because it remains so constant is inner beauty! You define it, you decide what yours should consist of and because you have such control over it, you decide which bits you will expose, when, to whom and how.

Outer beauty presents a standard of comparison and it can cause resentment and dissatisfaction when not achieved. God is fair because he gives everyone their own unique beauty. So do not think of yourself poorly or wish to be someone else because you don’t fit the description of the‘ideal’ beauty, instead embrace your personal beauty and be happy with your inner being which consists of a lot of characteristics that nobody can take away from you including grace, elegance, personality, individuality, integrity and ________ (add a characteristics that you possess).

I have learnt to love myself with all my physical flaws ( believe me I have many, I’ll share them with you some other time). In an industry where you are constantly judged, based on what you look like and what you’re wearing, the only way I could love them was for me to first love and be happy with my inner being. I had to know, accept, and appreciate who I am and what I stand for….Inner beauty is the most valuable thing you could ever posses.

I found this poem online and I immediately fell in love with it.

I have edited some bits coz it was damn long!

The important bits are in though so it doesn’t take anything from the poem.

It’s by Candice George:

BEAUTIFUL

I am beautiful

Not only because of the curve of my hips

Or the shape of my body

Not only because of the fullness of my lips

Or the curl of my eye lashes

I am beautiful because I want to be

I am beautiful because I have a heart

And that is a beautiful thing

I am beautiful because I have a brain

And that is a beautiful thing

I am beautiful because I give advice

And that is a beautiful thing

I am beautiful because I have confidence

I am beautiful because I have determination and wit

I am beautiful because I have goals and I plan to reach them

I am beautiful because I am always there to lend a helping han

If you don’t find beauty within yourself, it is not because it is not there, it is because you only choose to see what the world sees at first glance…inside you lies a beautiful man or woman just waiting to be loved and embraced.

So if you were part of the TV series True beauty, and you already knew that you were being judged on inner beauty, how would you let your inner beauty shine through? Simply put – what according to you really constitutes as true beauty?

Let me know and you could stand a chance to win cosmetic products courtesy of AVON / Justine.

P.S : Make-up should be used to help you feel better and enhance the great features that you already have!!

  1. That was quite a lot to take in but I must confess, the poem is refreshing & inspiring. I like it. I've even written it down to share with my friends.
I couldn't agree more with you. Until you accept yourself and have a positive and beautiful image about yourself, you won't feel good. If you can learn to see yourself through God's eyes & not worry about what others think of you, your inner beauty will shine through.
So for me, good self esteem, confidence, love for yourself /self acceptance and a great personality is what really matters. Your outer beauty can attract people to you, but it is only your inner beauty that will determine how long they'll stay!
